Dragon Remote Microphone App Reviews

Works as advertised

Work fine with dictate 3 for Mac.

Terrible!

Sometimes works. Sometimes doesnt. Takes more time to fix than it saves. Worthless!

Request for additional features

Works well, but it would be very helpful if there were buttons on the app to switch between dictation modes.

Unusable

Completely unusable. IDs my computer fine, and the profile. When I try to use it, the app freezes, and an error message comes up on my computer saying that the app isnt connected. Id give it zero stars if I could

What a pain!

Since Nuance makes it almost impossible to contact them via their website I will leave my feedback here. Basically the auto-discovery process is just awful. It takes way too long for the desktop software (Mac Version) to see the phone and when it fails you get a modal dialog that doesnt even give you an option to retry the connection. If you are in a hurry you will die before you have a chance to dictate anything useful. Its as if they got their least experienced Windows programmer to write this.

Works Great

Works fantastic on my iPad. Use it all the time at work and Ive had no issues whatsoever. In fact, it works far better than the headset microphone I was using and is 1000 times more comfortable.

Not working week on iOS 6

Its not working very well on iOS 6. If the screen turns off (IPhone auto locks) the app stops transmitting to the computer. I dont remember this being a problem on older versions of iOS. It reduced the usability of this app because Im not going to change my auto lock preferences every time I want to use this app. Please fix.

Love this application

I just recently realized the Dragon had a remote microphone application. I decided to give it a try a few minutes ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I wish more programs were this easy to use. The only downside of it that I found was if your iPhone locks the microphone stops working and you have to unlock your phone to continue dictating with the application. I dictated this whole review using my iPhone 4, if you depend on Dragon is much as I do give this application a try.

not usable with IOS 6

Wont work with IOS 6 so dont bother with it for now. No fix known to be coming.

Cant connect to computer with iOS6

I cannot get this software to connect to my Mac (OS10.7.5). The app description says that "the app requires a Wi-Fi connection to the PC running the appropriate version of Dragon software." Sounds simple. But setting it up is not. The Dragon website says, "To make it easy to prepare your device to find your computer, the Dragon Remote Microphone application supports Bonjour, a network protocol for Windows that allows your device to automatically find your computer." Well, it does not automatically find it, even though Im sure that the Mac and my iPhone are on the same network. The website also says, "If Bonjour isn’t available or functioning, you can manually enter information about your computer into the Dragon Remote Microphone application following the steps provided." Well, I cannot find the "steps provided" other than fields to fill in. It asks for the IP address, the computer port, and gives a "use a barcode" option. Entering the IP address alone does not help. And I have no clue what the other two options are about. In sum, I agree with another reviewer who simply said, "wont work with iOS 6." At least I gave it a shot. Minimally, more setup instructions are needed from Nuance on this.

OK, I am a bit surprised….

I have been using MacSpeech and then eventually Dragon Dictate, now up to 3.0.2; previously I had used the included microphone, and for a long time the Plantronics Calisto Bluetooth (with which I have had MANY problems). I had downloaded this app previously, but other than just playing with it hadnt bothered to learn and use it until recently. I was surprised to find out that once I configured and connected the app, it turns out that it seems work better with DD 3.0 than the Calisto, which had been my (somewhat lame) workhorse. So, I am finding it very good, but with the usual complaints: -Yes, you need to have the app automatically turn off Auto Lock !! -The microphone setup seems more accurate, but there is a slight lag of dictation showing up after speaking, which I have not seen with the Calisto or other mics -If I stop dictating and close the app, you have to go back and manually reconnect to the computer (in this case a MacBook Pro Retina); the old instances of connected profiles are still there and you have to delete them, starting a new connection. Overall, I am surprised to see this otherwise working well. As usual, it would be nice if Nuance would get off their duffs and REALLY support the Mac version of their software, instead of treating it like an ugly stepchild. Certainly if there were a viable alternative to Nuance/Dragon I wouldnt hesitate to switch.

Problems

When it works it works well what doesnt work its frustrating. I discovered that my virus program McAfee and Malwarebytes interferes with remote microphone. I could never get it to work until I figured out that you have to manually enter the ports as an exception for your programs and then it is sporadic. I have even use the dictation recorder program to manually link the computer to an IP address its hit or miss when it works its amazing so Dragon Nuance Ive been complaining to you for the last two years about this please get it fixed for people have PCs. You have to have Dragon speaking in order for this program to work. The other problem with this program is that you have to continually train it so every time you try to use the remote mic and it doesnt work and you set up a new profile you have to retrain. That said I still recommend

Did not work, could not connect

Did not work, could not connect to pc, kept freezing app on iPod. Finally gave up. Better to use plain old USB microphone.

MR. Frank Crowe

I would rate this a 4.5 or 5 if it didnt disable the numeric + key on the pc keyboard. Will not work even with an addon numeric keypad!! Multiple attempts with tech support and the techie didnt understand the problem, terrible support as is true with Naturally Speaking. They want to charge the cosumer to solve problems that are in the coding. I can live without the + key, but it is annoying and tech support is terrible.

Love it, But please fix the auto lock!

I am right there with the other reviewers. It was surprisingly useful and accurate, but the auto lock bug makes the program be nearly unusable for real world purposes. I am a coder, and I know that this is a relatively easy issue to fix. Beyond that, it would be nice if the iPhone screen offered the option for additional control of the speech recognition beyond the simple turn mic on and off toggle button. For instance, it would be nice if there was a button to delete the last word typed. These very small additions are all that is preventing a five star rating!

Lackluster Company

Dragon Dictate for Mac worked pretty well for me, but the company will nickel and dime you over the smallest matters. My suggestion? Dont buy unless you absolutely need to.

Freezes instantly on iOS 5.1.1

This might be a useful app if it would run. Killed and relaunched multiple times. Setup went smoothly, but as soon as it was paired to the computer it froze - could not activate the Mic button. I wish there was an option for zero stars!

Complete garbage.

Dont waste your time.

Does not connect AT ALL

Im on iOS6 and using (trying to use, that is (Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5) through Parallels on a Mac with this app. Followed all instructions to the letter but it is simply unable to connect.

If you dont like this app, you are out of your mind.

Easiest app Ive ever used. And it was a lifesaver when creating new user profiles w multiple mics became a huge hassle when some mics worked well and others didnt. Ever since this app I have had ZERO issues w connecting, and I use DNS on 3 different pcs currently (my home and work laptops and my home desktop.) hell, i dont even have to do anything, it gives you a QR code and it does everything itself. seriously, ever since I got this app and how easy it is to use has opened up the real power of DNS and I never DREAMED I would use and incorporate DNS so much in my day to day life. As cheesy as that sounds and I hate informercials. But now I never type. Ever. This app gets 20 stars if I could. If you seriously dont use this remote app or you cant figure out how to use it... K@*l yourself.
